Rothko

Image
During the 1940s Rothko's imagery became increasingly symbolic. In the social climate of anxiety that dominated the late 1930s and the years of World War II, images from everyday life--however unnaturalistic--began to appear somewhat outmoded. If art were to express the tragedy of the human condition, Rothko felt, new subjects and a new idiom had to be found. He said, "It was with the utmost reluctance that I found the figure could not serve my purposes....But a time came when none of us could use the figure without mutilating it." My Blue House

Image
Back in 2005, I went to Brazil to find myself. I was so unhappy, so lost, so far away from what I had imagined I would become one day. I was living a life that was not real. I had to pretend I was happy all the time. I was living somebody else’s life. I didn’t have a job, I didn’t have love, I didn’t have my family close to me, I didn’t have any traces of that loving and lively girl I had once been. Then I decided to spend two months in Brazil – I gave up on a good job interview, separated from my ex-husband, and decided to start my life from scratch once again. I had plans to stay in Brazil, since I was so tired of my empty American life. I never felt like I belonged here. I didn't even feel like I had a home to go back to. So I did what seemed right at the time: I did some traveling in Brazil, I visited a place that must be very close to the concept we have of paradise, I went out with friends, I danced a lot, laughed and cried a lot, I looked for a job, which by the way seemed t...

Before the Table

I wish that each poem that I write to you could translate love in its complexities, pauses, laughter, joy, intensity: al...

Green Silence

Image
How should I take your green silence? Should I pretend I don't care? Should I let you know that it hurts me? Should I tell you that your silence is a gap between our bridge? Should I just think about something else? Should I love you with a cold heart? I don't know how to take your green silence. I wish that peace could fill my soul and that the gap I see be nothing but a shadow. Give me your orange wings, nothing less.
